Men’s Football

The Institute regularly plays 1st and 2nd XI fixtures against colleges all across the North East region - which stretches across to Yorkshire and as far north as Tyneside. There are often 3rd XI fixtures when other colleges are able to field a third team or even a 'social' side! Both of the college teams are members of the British Colleges Sport leagues, and also enter the BCS knockout cup and 5-aside tournaments. The 1st XI also enter the English Schools FA Under 18s national tournament.
We regularly hold training sessions, and members of the various teams are encouraged to take the FA Level 1 in Coaching Award, as well as having the opportunity to take the FA Referee's qualification. There is a good atmosphere amongst the players, and this is reflected on the pitch and off when we have social events in the Institute's i-Bar. The culmination of the season is a tournament between the 1st, 2nd, 3rd XI and the Football Academy, followed by various awards and presentations that evening in the i-Bar.

Ladies Football

We train every Friday undertaking sessions in skills, fitness and conditioning games. Regular weekly fixtures occur against local colleges with the view to introduce the team into a regular league system whilst the team competes in the BCS cups. There is a real team spirit within the group fostered from regular social events that occur.

Men’s Rugby Union

Affiliated to the North East BCS region and the Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire RFU, the rugby union team regularly train and play fixtures both 15 –a- side and in 10 –a- side competitions. Training takes place either at Grimsby RUFC or at the Nuns Corner Campus. Sessions include skill based activities, conditioning sessions with a personal trainer, access to sports therapy sessions and theory based video analysis sessions. In addition to the playing side at The Grimsby Institute, our team have a busy social calendar including residential enrichment activities involving walking, kayaking and camping and other activities such as bowling and fancy dress parties all cumulating in a black tie event at the end of the season.

Basketball

The basketball team train weekly and play in the BCS North East Cup and in regular friendly fixtures. The newly formed team is becoming ever more popular and is coached by the highest qualified basketball coach.

Netball

Training sessions are weekly covering essential skills for improvement and with the experience of two coaches, new skills are introduced for constant development of all players and positions. In addition to the skill sessions there is also a large focus on fitness and conditioning which assist the weekly fixtures. Train hard, play hard and party hard is very much the ethos at the Institute’s netball team; social events range from team building exercises, to international netball matches, to the end of season party to celebrate a year of games and training.
