FRPERC ConsultancyA key driving force in FRPERC is supporting industry by working directly for companies and transferring our knowledge, gained from publicly funded research, into practical day-to-day solutions. Types of consultancyFRPERC can help and support industry in a number of different ways depending on the nature of the task and the requirements of the company as listed below. We deal with a wide range of subjects and these are more detailed within the research topics area of the website. Direct confidential consultancyIf you have a problem with a process, a new line or product or an idea to enhance your business, FRPERC can help. We can give advice on the way forward, undertake tests and trials and give an independent report on equipment or processes. Consultancy can be anything from a half-day visit or small literature search to any number of years and is carried out by FRPERC researchers, sometimes with the help of visiting workers or students. ResearchMany research projects carried out at FRPERC are part-funded by companies contributing their time to a project. In return for the contribution, companies have access to results and to a team of researchers working in an area of interest to the company. This provides a way for the company to get ahead of its competitors. Such projects have also helped companies to create valuable links with other companies and organisations that have similar or connected interests. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) Under this scheme, a new graduate is part-funded by the DTI, while working in a company as an employee, where they will work on a project that meets the needs and objectives of that company. In this way, the company receives a qualified person to work with them and regular support and guidance from FRPERC for a fraction of the normal cost. For more information on the scheme, visit the KTP website or for more information on the funding body, visit the DTI website. Education and TrainingFRPERC give regular lectures to different groups as part of their core education and training role. We also provide a number of different courses which individuals are able to book. We find increasingly that companies prefer to request a course tailor made to their requirements. It can be cost effective for this talk to be given by a member of FRPERC at the company as a greater number of employees can attend without it being necessary for them to spend time and expense travelling to a venue away from their normal working place. Expert witnessFRPERC is frequently called upon by solicitors to act as an expert witness in pending court actions. We can also provide independent reports on systems and processes, which can be useful prior to proceeding through the legal system, and the situation may be resolved without ever having to include any solicitors.
