What is Focus?
Focus is the name of the academic journal of Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education. The primary aim of Focus is to provide a forum for the publication of work of Institute staff involved in research and scholarly activity. It is hoped that such publication will stimulate an arena for the academic activity and critical enquiry central to upholding excellent academic standards. The journal publishes academic papers, research articles and reports from the diverse disciplines which comprise the divisions.

Looking ahead
It is envisaged that submission to Focus will support staff in developing work of a publishable standard. It enables its contributors to gain a valuable insight into the stages of preparation which are involved in submitting work for publication. One of its aims of the journal is to prepare the ground for further publication in a refereed journal or other academic outlet by providing a supportive stepping stone towards this goal.

Research Interest Group
The journal will support the work of the Research Interest Group which comprises both research active staff and those staff who would like to become research active. The Research Interest Group presents a regular Seminar Series which comprises papers and presentations on a number of stimulating areas currently being researched by Institute staff. Focus may then be considered the next step in developing research by extending and developing papers which have been presented as part of the series.
