Research Interest Group (RIG)


The aim of the Research Interest Group is to develop and support the research interests of staff and to promote a research culture at the Institute by providing a forum for the dissemination of research findings and promotion of academic enquiry and discussion. Its members include both those who are research active and those who wish to become research active. Research forms the backbone of higher education and intellectual enquiry and the group is united in this central interest which is crucial to upholding academic standards and high quality provision whilst allowing individual growth, progression and development.

The presence of the group is mainly based around the Research Interest Group Seminar Series.This series has seen the presentation of papers and reports on a wide variety of topics drawn from the arts and sciences, business management and teaching practice.
 

The series has also seen the inclusion of help sessions aimed at those who are just getting started in research. Presentations been given on aspects of writing and publication and the utilisation of research resources. The presentations have been lively and stimulating and provide a genuinely open academic environment in which to critically evaluate and discuss research interests. The series runs on the good will of staff whose commitment to research is such that they often fit their research interests around a full teaching schedule.

Many of the papers presented in the series will form the basis of future papers which may be published in Focus as the academic journal of the Institute. It is also hoped that such papers may be further developed for publication in peer reviewed journals
