Diploma - of Higher Education in Community and Youth Work - National Youth Association Accredited

UCAS Code : GRIMC G80 L591 DipHE/YCW

Duration: 2 years full-time and 3 years part-time.

The Diploma in Community and Youth Work is designed to provide workers with an underpinning knowledge on which to work with young people based on an understanding of the values, principles and ethics of the profession. The work is concerned with young people's personal and social development in its broadest sense and uses the method of informal education.

The programme is based on the principle of enabling learners to become reflective critical practitioners who are actively thinking when engaging with groups of young people. Reflection is about introspection, decision-making and action in the real work of practice.
Critical thinkers are able to appraise situations, act purposefully and evaluate their actions.

The Diploma is a nationally recognised qualification for community & youth workers. It is designed for those working in the community and/or with young people who seek personal and professional development.
Your position in paid or voluntary work is a key precondition, not least because you will need to negotiate with your employer to ensure that your learning will be supervised and that you have the necessary time and opportunities to demonstrate the workbased learning outcomes of the field-work modules.
You will also be required to complete a second practice placement in another organisation or agency. This field-work practice must include a substantial period devoted to working either with young people or in the community.

Entry Requirements

Students require 2 A levels or equivalent level qualifications in related subjects, or an Access qualification, GCSE English and GCSE Maths grade C or above. Some experience of working with young people. Students with no traditional entry qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.
