BA Honours - Education and Training

Duration: 3 years for honours, 2 years for unclassified.


A programme of educational studies for teachers and trainers who work in the post-compulsory sector of education in further, higher and adult education and in training establishments.

This is not a teacher training programme as such, but a comprehensive programme of educational studies tailored to the needs of each individual. The aim of this programme is to enable you to develop your personal knowledge and professional skills in areas relevant to your work.

It also aims to build on your understanding of the processes, management and the politics of development and change in Further, Higher and Adult Education, training and related fields. In addition, it focuses on developing your study and research skills to enable you to pursue educational study and research to a professional standard.

Entry Requirements

Students must have completed a Certificate in Education and have 2 years full-time teaching or training experience (or part-time equivalent); this may be worth 180 credits towards the degree. Applications are also welcome from potential students with 5 years experience who do not possess a Certificate in Education or equivalent.
POINTS SYSTEM
These are accumulated as follows:
Pre-entry
120 points for a Certificate in Education, or equivalent
60 points for two years' teaching or training experience or equivalent

On-programme
20 points for study modules
20 or 30 points for project modules

How is the course assessed?

There are no examinations; instead there is a process of continuous assessment, module by module. Modules are assessed by essays, projects, seminars and portfolios.
