Fabrication & Welding courses
Level 2 - Performing Engineering Operations (Fabrication and Welding)
Duration: 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time.
It is a Level 2 engineering course that can be assessed off the job (at the Institute). This would mimic the working situation by using machinery tools and equipment representative to industry standards.
Entry Requirements
Successful completion of the PEO Level 1 Fabrication and Welding orA minimum of three GCSEs at grade D or above including Maths, English and Science.
The applicant needs to attend the course with overalls and a pair of steel toe capped boots.
What you learn
The qualification structure is:Mandatory Units (All three units must be completed)
PEO2/001: Working Safely in an Engineering Environment
PEO2/002: Working Efficiently and Effectively in Engineering
PEO2/003: Using and Communicating Technical Information
Optional Units (A minimum of three units must be completed):
PEO2/007:Forming and Assembling Pipework Systems
PEO2/022: Producing Sheet Metal Components and Assemblies
PEO2/023: Producing Platework Components and Assemblies
PEO2/024: Cutting and Shaping Materials using Thermal Cutting Equipment
PEO2/027: Preparing and Using Manual Metal Arc Welding Equipment
PEO2/028: Preparing and Using Manual TIG Equipment
PEO2/029: Preparing and Using Manual MIG Equipment
Key Skills or Core Skills at an appropriate level are mandatory.
Students wishing to pursue a career in this area need to achieve good standards of Literacy, Numeracy and ICT. For this reason, if you are under 19 years of age when you begin your course, you will be required to study these essential subjects.
What next?
On successful completion, some students seek employment; others opt to progress onto the Level 3 Technical Certificate in Fabrication and Welding.How is the course assessed?
