Study resources & facilities

At The Grimsby Institute you will find excellent study support facilities including an extensive computer installation, multi-media studios, libraries, audio-visual aids and a new research and study skills centre, providing dedicated support for all students.

Open-access computing facilities are available for undergradutes. Most computers are IBM clones, the majority with Pentium processors. We also have a number of Apple Macs and an interlinked UNIX network.

The computing resources are networked throughout the campus and provide access to a number of packages, tutorials, CD-ROM bases and catalogues as well as the internet and the institute intranet.

East Coast Media's facilities include a sophisticated TV production resource, with TV studio cameras, vision-mixing and camcorders for OB shooting. Editing facilities include the Avid Media Composer 900 and a 5-machine editing suite. Sound editing, music dubbing and a variety of other effects are carried out through an audio mixing deck. These facilities are being continually up-dated to keep pace with emerging technology. Broadcast-quality computer graphics have recently been added and the multi-media non-linear editing area expanded.

We also have three libraries, including a specialist Art Library located at Westward Ho. A dedicated HE library at Nuns Corner contains books, journals, study packs and electronic information systems. Photo-copying, video viewing, fast-text, open-access computer packages and CD-ROMs on over thirty PCs are also provided, all with email and internet access.
