Money matters
Thinking about staying on after school but sick of being short of cash? Well, now you don’t have to worry. Thanks to a scheme set up by the Government you can actually get paid to be a student!Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) means you can concentrate on enjoying your course without the hassle of having to worry about money. If you are a full-time student between the ages of 16-18 and your household has an income of £30,810 or less you could receive up to £30 a week.
This weekly payment is paid directly to you and is intended to help with the day to day costs of staying in education (e.g. books, equipment, dinner). If you stick with your course and make good progress you could also get a bonus of £100 available in January and July.
If you think you need further support after EMA you may also apply to the Grimsby Institute Leaner Support Fund, this again is monetary support to aid with the costs of staying in education.
For further information or to apply for these financial aids, please contact the Institute’s EMA office 01472 311222 Ext 434. EMA can also be applied for online at www.dfes.gov.uk/financialhelp/ema.
Depending where you live the Institute also provides free transport from Sutton on Sea and villages along the way, both to and from the Institute. For further information regarding this service please contact The Information Centre - freephone 0800315002 or by email: Emrys Babb, Student transport – babbe@grimsby.ac.uk
